ORC THANKSGIVING BASKETS... |
|
Each year, Spoken For collects over 400 baskets of food to take to inner-city South Dallas to be given out to families the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The baskets are filled with everything needed to feed a family of eight on Thanksgiving. The baskets are filled by local churches throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The greatest need for volunteers is on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. On this day, individuals and families of all ages travel down to South Dallas to the Operation Relief Center for an incredible day of serving and fellowshipping with the families who come to receive their baskets of food. Operation Relief Center is a non-profit Christian outreach center located in South Dallas, on the corner of Grand and Harwood. The center provides clothing, food, counseling, housing and more for families who live in South Dallas.
When: There are two serving opportunities...
- You, your family, your church, or your small group can supply baskets of food. Spoken For provides the basket and instructions and you or your group fill the basket with all the makings for a Thanksgiving meal for a family of eight, including $20 to cover the cost of a turkey and pie which will be purchased by Spoken For to accompany your basket.
- THE BIG SERVING DAY – is on Saturday, November 19th. We need as many people as possible. This is great for families of all ages. We will meet at Operation Relief Center in South Dallas at 10:00am. On this day, we will pick up 400 Turkeys and 400 pies from the local Minyard’s and organize the 400 baskets. Families from South Dallas begin lining up at 11:00am and volunteers will help carry baskets of food and clothing to cars. Everyone will get an opportunity to talk and share with each other. We will have a free lunch for all volunteers. We conclude the day at 2:00pm. The area is fenced in and is very safe. We will also have a food pantry, clothing pantry and light projects for everyone to help with. Volunteers can come for 30 minutes, an hour, or for everything we are doing. We need big smiles, great attitudes, and working hands.
